Eighth-Graders Take on the Capitol

May 13th, 2025

Landmark’s eighth-grade students recently returned from an unforgettable trip to Washington, D.C. The group hit the ground running with a visit to the National Zoo, where giant pandas stole the show, and continued with moving experiences at Ford’s Theater and the Jefferson, Lincoln, and MLK memorials at dusk. A lively dinner at Hard Rock Café capped off the first day.

Day two featured powerful moments at Arlington National Cemetery, a stop by the White House, interactive learning at the Planet Word Museum, and cool respite at the Smithsonian’s Natural History Museum. The day closed with reflections at the Vietnam, Korean War, and FDR memorials, followed by a memorable dinner at a Top Chef-featured spot and nighttime views of the 9/11 and Iwo Jima memorials.

On the final day, students toured the U.S. Capitol, were moved at the Holocaust Museum, and visited the American History and Air and Space Museums. Throughout the trip, Landmark students demonstrated maturity, advocacy, and camaraderie.
