Juniors Learn Real-World Budgeting in “Game of Life” Simulation

May 1st, 2025

Landmark’s junior class participated in the Game of Life—a hands-on financial literacy experience designed to help students navigate the realities of adult budgeting. Set up in the cafeteria, the simulation featured a variety of booths staffed by teachers, each representing essential expenses such as housing, childcare, utilities, and transportation. Students were assigned incomes and tasked with making spending decisions at each station, balancing their wants and needs. After completing their rounds, students reflected on their choices and what surprised them most about managing a budget. The exercise sparked valuable conversations about financial priorities, trade-offs, and future planning. By turning personal finance into a real-time challenge, the Game of Life helped students better understand the skills and mindset they’ll need beyond graduation.
