Position Overview

The Grounds Supervisor directs and participates in the daily operations of the grounds department.
The Grounds Supervisor reports directly to the Director of Facilities to maintain a neat and orderly
campus. The Supervisor is responsible for removing trash/recycling as needed, keeping all drainage
systems clear of debris, operating lawn sprinkler systems and keeping lawns, plants and trees
watered and trimmed. The Supervisor is responsible for organically fertilizing lawns, plants and trees
and controlling pests. The Supervisor organizes set-ups for special events and provides snow
removal and ice control as needed, and supervises daily projects within the grounds department.

Key Responsibilities

Expectations for a Grounds Supervisor include but are not limited to the following duties:

  • Mow, rake, weed, sweep, prune, mulch, remove trash, leaves and brush; plant flowers, bushes and trees, dig trenches, work from ladders, and install landscape timbers and paths; lift heavy machinery such as lawn mowers, snow blowers and leaf blowers; occasionally lift trash bags, mulch and machinery in excess of 100 pounds; drive a truck and operate heavy equipment.
  • Follow and build upon our ORGANIC TURF CARE PROGRAM to create state of the art playing surfaces
  • Run all Snow operations Including Subcontractors and our In house team (Grounds, Maintenance, custodial)
  • Be able to create and follow a year long Grounds schedule to set expectations
  • Report building repairs and safety issues to the campus maintenance person or the Supervisor of Maintenance; frequently work overtime; arrange for vehicle and machinery maintenance
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested.

Requirements

  • 3 plus years of experience in landscape maintenance
  • Exhibit prior experience with organic lawn and garden techniques and use of non-toxic pest controls
  • Demonstrate an ability to supervise staff, make purchases and coordinate with outside vendors and tradespeople effectively; demonstrate ability to landscape and develop a beautiful campus
  • Exhibit prior experience plowing and sanding.
  • Be physically able to lift, bend, stoop, climb, reach, and work on hands and knees, be exposed to dust and fumes, be able to work outdoors in hot and cold temperatures, be able to climb and work from ladders, be able to move heavy furniture and equipment.
  • To help assure that employees in continuing positions are able to perform the essential functions of the job, each person offered continuing employment must attain a post-offer, pre-employment physical at no expense to them. Acquire CPR and First Aid certification. Each person offered employment at the School must complete a CORI (Criminal Offender Record Information) check, a Massachusetts-mandated fingerprint-supported National Criminal History Record Information (CHRI) report, a SORI (Sexual Offender Record Information) check, and a background record check.
  • For employees who drive campus vehicles, a current driver’s license must be provided so Landmark may complete a Registry of Motor Vehicle (RMV) driving record request. An unsatisfactory record may result in withdrawal of the job offer if driving is an essential element of the position.

Education Qualifications

  • High School / Vocational School diploma
  • Valid Hoisting engineer 2A/1C
  • Valid Driver's license
  • Valid pesticide license or Arborist Certification and training
  • OSHA 10
