EMS Cross Country Up And Running

September 20th, 2023

EMS Cross Country has had a great start to the season!

Take a quick look at Coach Triback's recap of their first meet:

After a day of never-ending rain and a canceled meet, we couldn’t ask for a better day to host our first meet of the season for the 2023 Landmark Middle School Cross Country team.

We arrived at the fields of Iron Rail at about 3:15 to meet up with the Tower School and Covenant Christian Academy. The Landmark team led the way on the walk-through preview of the course. After a team stretch, and a “Go Landmark” cheer, the runners spread out across the starting line on the soccer field. With encouragement to look out for each other, the runners took their mark, got set....and raced on our 2 mile course.

With a nice long straightaway for the start, the runners were cheered on by the crowds of spectators at the beginning of their journey. A quick right turn and they were headed to the long hill leading them up to the wooded part of the course. After zipping through that windy section, they made their way down the hill to a shady section of dirt road. Next, the course took the runners across and around the baseball field, up to a paved road, and along the mulch covered pathway next to the soccer fields. The runners were making their way back to the crowds ready to head for lap two. It was a sea of blue uniforms (all three schools wore navy blue) zipping by the cheering fans.

Our top two runners were only one second apart. As you can see, everyone of our athletes brought their A-Game to the race today, even faster than we thought they would be. And the runners will just get better as the weeks go by.  I'm extremely proud of all of our runners. And Landmark was victorious!
