A.C.T.I.V.E Reading Strategies
April 10th, 2023
Landmark's elementary Oral Expression/Literature (O/E Lit) classes have been busy practicing our A.C.T.I.V.E. Learning comprehension strategies: Ask, Connect, Tools to Repair, Infer, Visualize, and Explain the Main Idea are each represented by an icon and a fictional character who specializes in the strategy. Annie the Asker (Wendy Ellis), Connie the Connector (Jennifer Schley-Johnson), Ian the Inferian (Rob Kahn), Victor the Visualizer (Tara Joly-Lowdermilk), Esther the Explainer (Debby Blanchard), and Tony the Tool Guy (Kirk Swanson) have made an annual tradition of visiting the Elementary OE/Lit classes to share their expertise and bring each strategy to life.
Last week, Debby Blanchard made one final visit to the elementary classes as Esther in order to introduce her younger sister, Elsie the Explainer. Since Academic Dean Debby Blanchard has retired, she wanted to pass the torch (or main idea umbrella) to her successor, Meghan Sebens. Students and teachers were tickled to witness the uncanny resemblance between the two expert explainers. EMS has been left in great hands with Elsie the Explainer!
