  The Landmark High School Girls’ Varsity Basketball team is hosting the Second Annual Coaches vs. Cancer game on Friday, February 24, at the Ansara Center. All funds raised will go directly to the American Cancer Society, which works to prevent cancer, save lives, and reduce cancer-related suffering.  The event-packed evening begins at 7 p.m. with the Girls' Varsity Basketball game against Covenant Christian Academy. At a meeting on February 2, 2017, hosted by Landmark, the athletic directors of the Independent Girls Conference (IGC) confirmed the addition of three schools to the conference. This brings the total number of schools in the IGC to 10, which will benefit our program by increasing the level and variety of competitive play for our female athletes.  The expansion will take effect in the fall of 2017. Elementary•Middle School students Lindsay P. (7th grade) and Katharine J. (8th grade) won Gold Key and Honorable Mention recognition respectively in this year's Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. Landmark School students received a total of 20 awards. Winners at the Gold Key level advance to the national competition with a formal ceremony for finalists held in New York City in June. Time and again, Phil Eskes has proven himself to be one of the most reliable and fundamentally sound players on the court. Since returning from winter break, his true prowess has really shone through. While Phil has not been the most vocal among his teammates, he leads by example on the JV2 squad. While on the court, Phil plays with his whole team in mind—making cuts, setting picks, boxing out—in essence, putting in the selfless work that creates opportunities for his teammates to succeed.... One of the best surprises of the Viking basketball season has been the emergence of junior Ryan Carruthers. In his first year here at Landmark, he has quickly established himself as one of the most talented varsity basketball players and someone the team looks to for leadership. Recently, Ryan helped to lead the Vikings to their most dramatic win of the season against Cambridge School of Weston by exploding for 22 points (many of which came in the final minutes) in a nail-biting 64-59 victory.... Peter Laird In his first season of wrestling Peter Laird has impressed his coaches and teammates alike by being a force at the 140 lb weight class. Over the past week Peter has built a 4-0 record with four pins. His work ethic at practice is commendable and certainly pays off with each of his victories.
