Dance

The Landmark Dance Program offers students, from beginner to advanced, the opportunity to learn different styles including modern, ballet, contemporary, jazz, musical theater, hip hop, improvisation, choreographic devices, Chinese water-sleeves/fans, and dance conditioning. Classes offer a fun, positive, and safe space where students can express themselves through movement while learning the importance of dance history, vocabulary, and musicality.  Every year students may audition to join the Landmark Dance Company where they will rehearse choreographed ensemble and solo pieces for the annual Evening of Dance performance.

Beginner Dance

The Landmark Dance Program offers students the opportunity to learn different dance styles including hip hop, ballet, modern, contemporary, jazz, Chinese Water Sleeve/Fan dance, musical theater, choreographic devices, and dance conditioning (Pilates/yoga/Gyrokinesis). Dance classes offer a fun, positive, and safe space where students can express themselves through movement while learning the importance of dance vocabulary, musicality, choreography, and history.  Students who choose to enroll in the dance elective are members of the Landmark Dance Company.  They will have the opportunity to rehearse and perform for our annual Evening of Dance Performance in April.  This class is open to students new to dance.

Intermediate Dance

The Landmark Dance Program offers students the opportunity to learn different dance styles including hip hop, ballet, modern, contemporary, jazz, Chinese Water Sleeve/Fan dance, musical theater, choreographic devices, and dance conditioning(Pilates/yoga/Gyrokinesis). Dance classes offer a fun, positive, and safe space where students can express themselves through movement while learning the importance of dance vocabulary, musicality, choreography, and history.  Students who choose to enroll in the Dance Elective are members of the Landmark Dance Company. They will have the opportunity to rehearse and perform for our annual Evening of Dance Performance in April. 

This class is open to students who have previous dance experience or have completed Landmark’s Beginner Dance Class.

Advanced Dance

The Landmark Dance Program offers students the opportunity to learn different dance styles including hip hop, ballet, modern, contemporary, jazz, Chinese Water Sleeve/Fan dance, musical theater, choreographic devices, and dance conditioning(Pilates/yoga/Gyrokinesis).  Dance classes offer a fun, positive, and safe space where students can express themselves through movement while learning the importance of dance vocabulary, musicality, choreography, and history. Students who choose to enroll in the Dance Elective are members of the Landmark Dance Company. They will have the opportunity to rehearse and perform for our annual Evening of Dance Performance in April.

This class is open to students who have previous intermediate/advanced dance experience or have completed Landmark’s Beginner and Intermediate Dance classes.

evelyn burke dance director landmark high schoolEvelyn Burke is a modern dancer, choreographer, and teacher.  She earned her BFA in Performance and Choreography from S.U.N.Y. Purchase Conservatory of Dance, where she graduated summa cum laude and was awarded the Dean’s Award. While working in New York City, she had the pleasure of performing for Hilary Easton + Company, Francisco Graciano (former principal dancer with the Paul Taylor Dance Company), Mazzini Dance Collective directed by Annmaria Mazzini (former principal dancer with the Paul Taylor Dance Company), BODYART Dance Company, Yung-li Chen, and Stuart Singer.  She was assistant choreographer and teacher to Hernando Cortez for the Joffrey Ballet School’s Jazz and Contemporary Summer Program and taught dance at St. Michael’s Catholic Academy. 

Evelyn’s choreography has been presented in China, Taiwan, Spain, and the United States.  After a fulfilling performance career, Evelyn moved to the Berkshires, in Western Mass., where she was a commissioned choreographer for Berkshire School’s dance program, taught dance classes at Indian Mountain School, as well as local dance studios. Since moving to the North Shore in 2018, she has been teaching dance and choreographing at Shore Country Day School, Brookwood School, Harborlight Montessori, The Dance Place in Newburyport, and Ipswich Moving Company, now known as High Street Studios.

Throughout middle school and high school, Evelyn discovered her passion for dance at Bucknell University, where she was invited to train, perform, and choreograph with the Bucknell University’s Dance Company under the direction of Danna Frangione, Er-dong Hu, and Kelly Knox. In 2001 and 2002, she was assistant teacher and choreographer to Danna Frangione at Tsoying Performing Arts Senior High School in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. She is a returning guest artist for the Bucknell Dance Department in her hometown of Lewisburg, Penn. 

Evelyn became the Director of Dance at Landmark School in 2019.
