Student Advocates 2025-2026

Student Advocates

The Student Advocates are a small group of Landmark School seniors who present at colleges and universities in the Boston area, as well as virtually to schools that are further away, to share their knowledge and first-hand experiences of learning disabilities with future educators. Their presentations are impactful, honest, and eye-opening for their audiences.

Mission of the Student Advocates

As advocates, we hold values to inform and empower educators to create an environment where students with language-based learning disabilities (LBLD) can thrive. We educate by correcting misconceptions related to learning differences.

◗ ADVOCATE

We advocate for all students who have been and could be disadvantaged by an educational system that is not built to support those with learning differences.

◗ EDUCATE

We educate about how to create a positive environment for students who learn differently.

◗ INSPIRE

We inspire teachers to acknowledge and understand learning differences so they can create classrooms in which students can thrive.

The Advocates Know What Works

Their group presentation includes personal stories, research, interactive exercises, and time for questions from the audience. The Advocates also share what teaching and learning strategies work best for them and how aspiring teachers can incorporate these tools into their classrooms. Examples include Landmark's Six Teaching Principles, such as presenting information in varied ways, making lessons active and kinesthetic, using templates, encouraging self-advocacy, and more. Each member of this group has an expressed desire to make an impact on future teachers by encouraging them to understand and support students with learning differences.
