Lighthouse Ceremony 2023

June 9th, 2023

The Elementary•Middle School Lighthouse Ceremony took place on Friday, June 9, 2023 in the afternoon after the Elementary Key Ceremony. Students processed from the gym to the courtyard and were met with a line of cheering teachers before they entered the tent. In the tent they were greeted by family, friends, and fellow classmates. The procession was led by the teacher marshals, Mr. Chris Harris and Mr. Chris McKernan. Mrs. Claire Sullivan, the Head of the Elementary•Middle School,  welcomed everyone to the ceremony by talking about how she, herself, had prepared for this day. Mrs. Sullivan individually met with all 48 students who were transitioning from Landmark in her office for a one-on-one sit down with for “no less than 40 minutes each” (what a feat to fit these into her very busy schedule!). Mrs. Sullivan spoke about how these meetings allowed her to understand each student individually as a person and how she left these meetings with lots of recommendations about new television shows to watch, video games to play, and favorite places to travel.

Students then stood up at the podium one by one as teachers who were instrumental in their development at EMS talked about their accomplishments and growth during their time spent at Landmark. Each speech was heartfelt and sincere. It was apparent that Landmark will always hold a special place in the life stories of all of the students present at the ceremony. Students are moving on to a range of different school programs next year–from their public schools, to other private schools in the area, or Landmark High School. Congratulations to all of the students at the Lighthouse Ceremony.
