Surprise Recognition

This fall, Landmark High School Junior, Kacie Neely'24, and her mom, Cindy, surprised Landmark's Elementary•Middle School faculty member, Lauri Johnson, with a very special honor.

Kacie and Cindy had heard about the popular women's bag and accessory company, Consuela's It's Not About the Bag program—and felt compelled to nominate Ms. Johnson for the recognition.

In their letter to Conseula, Cindy said, "I truly owe my daughter's life to Lauri, without whom I cannot imagine where we would be." She describes how Ms. Johnson came to school each day with fresh ideas for how to earn Kacie's trust and help her achieve success, one small step at a time. "What mother could ever thank a person enough for saving them; for helping them in ways no one else has been able to? She showed my daughter that she was capable of learning anything—truly the gift of education."

Ms. Johnson said of the recognition, " I was completely floored and humbled and just knew that this was one of many stories where we did our job to help students. That is our primary mission. After being at five other schools in three states, I have found my sweet spot here. I work with a community that values each student and everyone's input. Our rewards are greater than anything I have ever experienced. The Neelys hold a special place in my heart because Kacie was one of my first students upon arriving at Landmark in 2016."

On their website, Consuela explains the It's Not About the Bag program as "a mission to celebrate women who impact the world in positive ways through their service, strength, kindness, tenacity, and love."

Ms. Johnson was featured on the Consuela website as well as through their social media networks in October 2022.
