EMS Summer Academics

Students will build language skills through small classes, highly trained teachers, customized curricula, and a one-to-one tutorial. It's a program designed specifically to meet each student's needs.

TUTORIAL

The tutorial offers each student an individualized program. With goals and programming created for each student, this time is invaluable. Areas of instruction may include:

  • Phonemic awareness
  • Phonics
  • Oral reading fluency
  • Vocabulary
  • Comprehension 
  • Written expression

LANGUAGE ARTS

Working in small, productive groups, this writing class emphasizes the development from oral to written expression. Theme-based instruction is used to foster language and writing skills in a structured approach at the word, sentence, and paragraph levels. Graphic organizers and templates are used to improve students' abilities to organize and express information.

LITERATURE

The Literature class has three components:

  • Reviewing selected phonics and spelling patterns
  • Discussimg and recitating poetry
  • Evaluating and analyzing literature that is read or listened to
