Coaching the Whole Athlete

At Landmark, coaching is about more than developing athletes—it’s about helping students grow with confidence. Because many of our coaches are also classroom teachers, they understand how students with language-based learning differences learn best and bring those same proven teaching strategies to every practice and game.

Our Coaching Difference

Coaching that Understands How Students Learn

Our athletics program emphasizes sportsmanship, leadership, and commitment while challenging student-athletes to be their best on and off the field. Coaches encourage students to have fun, take risks, persevere through challenges, compete with heart, and learn how to win and lose with grace—building resilience and confidence every step of the way.

What makes Landmark different is who our coaches are. Most are also classroom teachers and experts in literacy and executive function, bringing the same intentional, research-based teaching practices to the field. Practices are carefully structured, skills are broken down into manageable steps, and learning is reinforced through modeling, repetition, and multisensory instruction. By supporting working memory, processing speed, and time management, our coaches help students experience success, stay engaged, and grow as athletes and learners.

Conference Affiliations

See Landmarks Conference Affiliations for both boys and girls sports

For boys’ varsity sports, Landmark maintains membership in the Eastern Independent League (EIL). The development and integrity of Landmark’s athletic program is enhanced through this membership, and the opportunities for our athletes have expanded over the years to better meet their needs. EIL membership for our boys include the following schools: Bancroft School, Beaver Country Day School, Berwick Academy, Chapel Hill Chauncy Hall (wrestling only), Concord Academy, Lexington Christian Academy, Pingree School, and Portsmouth Abbey School.

Landmark female athletes compete in the Independent Girls Conference (IGC). This conference also values the principles of sportsmanship and adheres to a similar mission statement as Landmark’s. Giving students the opportunity to compete in leagues that recognize sportsmanship, fair play, and healthy competition strengthens their self-image and enhances their growth. Members of the IGC include Brimmer & May, Cambridge School of Weston, Chapel Hill - Chauncy Hall, Gann Academy, Montrose School, and Waring School.

Both leagues are full members of the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council, also known as NEPSAC. Landmark maintains membership in NEPSAC’s District III.
