Learn About the Landmark Difference

Elementary School Curriculum

In Landmark's literacy ecosystem, expert language-based instruction is woven into every part of the Elementary experience. Students build reading, writing, language, and learning skills in every class, with every teacher, every day.

Elementary School
Course Overview

In Landmark’s Elementary Program, students learn in small, supportive classrooms with teachers who truly know them as learners. Led by a primary teacher with expertise in literacy instruction, students build strong foundational skills, confidence, and a sense of success that carries throughout their school journey.

Tutorial
Students receive a tutorial to work on literacy skills and are matched with a teacher who is best designed to meet the student's needs.*

Classes with Primary Teacher
Students in the Elementary Program have small group classes of 6-8 students with a primary teacher where literacy instruction is explicitly taught across all subject areas.* Classes with the primary teacher include:

  • Language Arts
  • Literature
  • Communications
  • Science / Social Studies

Math Class
Math classes are grouped separately from primary classes, according to each student’s needs.*

Explorations
Explorations help students foster their growth, ingenuity, and curiosity outside typical subject areas. See more below.

*See the Curriculum Guide above for more detailed information.

Social & Emotional Learning

Social-emotional learning is an important part of the Elementary experience at Landmark. Through mindfulness activities, regular check-ins, and weekly social-emotional learning lessons during Anchor Block, students build self-awareness, healthy decision-making skills, strong friendships, leadership, and confidence as learners. Through Landmark’s Key System, students are recognized for living the school’s values of Character, Empowerment, and Exploration.

No Pull-Outs

Landmark’s program is designed so that support happens within the classroom experience—never as a pull-out. With literacy instruction embedded in every class, with every teacher, every day, students build critical reading and language skills without sacrificing the subjects that spark curiosity, creativity, and confidence. At Landmark School, students can have it all!

Inquiry-Based Learning

Curiosity leads the way during Inquiry-Based Learning (IBL). With longer class blocks, students have time to both build skills and jump into hands-on projects connected to what they’re learning in class. Through driving questions, research, creativity, building, or exploration, students experience learning in active, engaging, and real-world ways.
