Independent Girls Conference Expands to 10 Teams
At a meeting on February 2, 2017, hosted by Landmark, the athletic directors of the Independent Girls Conference (IGC) confirmed the addition of three schools to the conference. This brings the total number of schools in the IGC to 10, which will benefit our program by increasing the level and variety of competitive play for our female athletes.
The expansion will take effect in the fall of 2017.
Landmark has been a member of the IGC since the mid 1990s. During this time, the league has fluctuated between six and eight schools. In 2015, the Woodward School withdrew from the IGC, creating a seven-member conference, including:
- Waring (Beverly)
- Chapel Hill-Chauncy Hall (Waltham)
- Gann (Waltham)
- Cambridge School of Weston (Weston)
- Montrose (Medfield)
- Brimmer and May (Chestnut Hill)
The new members of the IGC are:
- Covenant Christian Academy (Peabody)
- Newman Prep (Boston)
- Boston Trinity Academy (Boston)
The conference will be divided into two divisions. Division 1 will be comprised of more competitive teams, and Division 2 more developmental teams. The athletic directors will re-evaluate each year to determine where each program belongs. More schools will NOT mean more games (and more early releases!), it will simply mean more flexibility and better competition for the teams.
