In addition to Academic classes, the Elementary-Middle School Summer Program offers afternoon activities that supplement classroom education. Teamwork and hands-on activities allow students to grow leadership and verbal communication skills while making friends and sharing experiences with their peers. Two options are offered in Summer 2012 (July 5 to August 8) for the Full-Day Program: EXPLORATIONS which includes Marine Science and Adventure Ropes, and SUN, SAND, & SPEED which combines designing and building balsa wood cars and/or boats and exploring various forms of powering these vehicles from solar to CO2.

Explorations

Explorations is for students who are ready to get up and go! Marine Science and Adventure Ropes activities are offered in consecutive segments, for small groups of students in grades 3 - 7 grade.

Marine Science

This unit includes field trips, lab activities, kayaking, an introduction to snorkeling, and exploration of the North Shore’s ocean and coastal ecosystems.

Adventure Ropes

Younger students use Landmark’s climbing wall and low ropes elements to engage in fun, problem-solving group activities, as well as nature exploration and arts-oriented activities. Older students use the outdoor course, engaging in games and confidence-building on the climbing wall, low ropes, and high ropes elements. back to top

Sun, Sand, & Speed

This afternoon program is great for kids who love to tinker. Landmark introduces students grades 3 - 7 to challenging woodworking projects and the science of powering small handmade vehicles on land and in water.

Designing, Building, and Powering Small Vehicles

Basic woodworking skills are presented and reinforced in supervised sessions that allow students to work at their own pace. Ultimately, they learn how to build a model boat. Participants will design and build their own CO2-powered dragster as a culminating class project.
