The Day of (No) Silence

April 25th, 2024

Today, Thursday, April 25, Landmark High School students participated in the Day of (No) Silence. The Day of (No) Silence is a national student-led demonstration where LGBTQIA+ students and allies can take a vow of silence to protest the adverse effects of harassment and discrimination on LGBTQIA+ people in schools and the silencing of the LGBTQIA+ community.

In 2024, "With more than 800 anti-LGBTQ+ bills introduced last year, we must rise up and take action," and this is why the Day of (No) Silence is especially important this year. Landmark students had the opportunity to participate by signing a pledge, attending a student presentation during milk break, wearing purple to show their support, and attending the Break the Silence event during the last period of the school day. The guest speaker, Courtney Jackson, an English teacher at Loomis Chaffee High School and the Associate Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, shared her experience and some important thoughts about topics related to gender and sexuality. Today, Landmark High School students united in a powerful stand against discrimination, amplifying their voices in solidarity with the LGBTQIA+ community.
