Alexanders

Continuing a Legacy

Eric Alexander was a student at Landmark School from 1979 - 1984, where he was well known as “Ricky from Texas.”  Often sporting a cowboy hat and boots, Ricky radiated joy and kindness wherever he went. His time at Landmark School helped him to realize his strong personal and academic potential, gave him a deep understanding of himself and the world around him, and changed the course of his life.

Within the safety and structure of Landmark, Eric developed the courage to tackle new challenges. He excelled academically, took pride in his accomplishments, learned to self-advocate, and approached life with passion and authenticity. After graduation, he returned to Texas and harnessed his longtime passion for golf into a successful career. He lived every day to its fullest and was a source of sunshine and light for all that knew him. Sadly, Eric passed away in a car accident at the age of 30.

Memories of Ricky and his spirit are very much alive at Landmark. His portrait acts as a welcome greeting for all entering the main entrance to the Eric Alexander Academic Center, Landmark High School’s campus hub of activity. The Eric Alexander Memorial Library and Eric’s Cafe are also within this building. It is impossible to go a day at Landmark High School without mentioning the Alexander name.

This year, Eric’s parents, Joan and Stanford Alexander of Houston, TX added to their family’s Landmark legacy by donating a cornerstone gift to the Bob Broudo Excellence in Service Awards to support Landmark teachers. Joan said, “Eric’s life changed because of the help, support, and encouragement of the remarkable teachers at Landmark. We are proud to provide support to make these service awards possible as a way to show our gratitude and to reward the teachers who devote their lives to ensure the academic success of students with learning differences.”

Landmark is eternally grateful for everything the Alexander family has done to support the School and our talented and dedicated faculty. We are happy to have known Eric as a young man finding his place in the world—and honored to carry on his legacy.
