Landmark School Headmaster and Faculty Featured at National Learning Disabilities Association of America Annual Conference


Beverly, MA – Locally, Landmark School is known as a leader in the field of language-based learning disabilities, such as dyslexia. What many people may not know, however, is that the School’s reputation extends far beyond New England with a strong national and international reputation as well. This year, Robert Broudo, Landmark School Headmaster has been asked to Co-Chair the Program Committee of the 49th annual Learning Disabilities Association of America (LDA), national conference in Chicago, IL, Feb. 22 – 25, 2012. Five senior faculty members from Landmark School have also been invited to present at the conference that caters to thousands of attendees including teachers, educational administrators, researchers, education policy professionals, and parents of children with learning disabilities among many others.

Learning Disabilities Association of America (LDA) is the largest non-profit volunteer organization advocating for individuals with learning disabilities and has over 200 state and local affiliates in 42 states and Puerto Rico. LDA’s international membership of over 15,000 includes members from 27 countries around the world.

“I am thrilled to be Co-Chairing the Program Committee of this annual, state-of-the-art, information-rich event, said Bob Broudo, Headmaster of Landmark School. “This conference tends to be a place where parents and professionals in the field of education and learning disabilities pilgrimage each year to learn from each other, gather new information, hear from some of the greats in our field, and hopefully return to their day-to-day work refreshed and rejuvenated.”

The conference will offer workshops and presentations by researchers, key policy experts, and practitioners in the arena of learning disabilities to discuss challenges as well as best and current practices being implemented across the country and internationally. Keynote speakers include: Dr. Jerome Schultz, Ms. Deb Russell, Dr. Alba Ortiz, and Rick Lavoie.

Landmark speakers include:
Christopher Woodin: Presenting Number Sense Arithmetic Sense and Skills Using Whole-to Part Multimodal Strategies
Terrill Jennings: Presenting Getting the Words Out onto Paper: Strategies for Scaffolding Oral and Written Expression
Claire Caputo and Peter Harris: Presenting Written Expression at the Word, Sentence, and Composition Level for Elementary Aged Children
Bruce Miller: Presenting Get’em Up, Get’em Moving: Tactile/Kinesthetic Activities to Engage Students in Their Learning

Landmark School is an independent, coeducational boarding and day school with elementary, middle, and college preparatory high school programs. It caters to students, grades 2 – 12, with language-based learning disabilities, such as dyslexia. Students possess average to above average intelligence and normal behavioral development. Landmark’s mission includes an extensive Outreach Program of Professional Development courses, workshops, and publications for educators, administrators, clinicians, and parents.
