Girls' Varsity Basketball Team Hosts Cancer Fundraiser
The Landmark High School Girls’ Varsity Basketball team is hosting the Second Annual Coaches vs. Cancer game on Friday, February 24, at the Ansara Center. All funds raised will go directly to the American Cancer Society, which works to prevent cancer, save lives, and reduce cancer-related suffering.
The event-packed evening begins at 7 p.m. with the Girls' Varsity Basketball game against Covenant Christian Academy. The Staff vs. Students basketball game follows. Fundraisers also include a half-time contest, silent auction, and a bake sale. Pizza will be served after the Staff vs. Student game. The 2016 Coaches vs. Cancer event raised $3,000, and senior Madison Coddington, who organized the event, hopes to top that this year.
"Most of us have been touched by cancer in some way or another. Supporting the Coaches vs. Cancer event is my way to fight back against a disease that has taken too much from me and many others," she said. "Every donation makes a difference and is meaningful."
Coddington was recently featured on the A+ Student segment on WCVB, the local ABC affiliate. She was selected for her efforts on behalf of the American Cancer Society and for having the courage to leave her school in New York to attend Landmark.
