Landmark High School students received an impressive 24 Gold and Silver Keys and Honorable Mentions from the 2011 Boston Globe Scholastic Art Awards. With seven Gold Keys, three Silver Keys, and 14 Honorable Mentions, Landmark School has positioned itself, once again, as a dominating independent school in this auspicious program. In its 87th year, the national competition is the longest running, most prestigious recognition program for teen artists and writers in the United States.
Landmark's four Gold Key Awards will be entered in to the national competition and judged later this spring in a public exibition in New York City. More than 3,500 Massachusetts students in grades 7 through 12 entered the annual Boston Globe Scholastic Art Awards. The competition's most prominent prize, the Gold Key, was awarded to 150 students. There were also 291 Silver Keys and 459 Honorable Mentions. At both the regional and national levels, entries are blind judged by an esteemed jury of professional artists and writers ranging from fine and multimedia artists to poets and novelists.
“It is very exciting and affirming for our students to have been recognized by the Boston Globe Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. Their work was judged against hundreds of other talented students from all over the state and being awarded a Gold or Silver Key or Honorable Mention publicly acknowledges their effort and talent as some of the most outstanding in Massachusetts. The ultimate pay off was not just in public recognition, but in confidence, said Beth Jamieson,” Head of Landmark High School’s Art Department.
All Gold and Silver Keys award winning pieces are now on display at the State Transportation Building in Boston through Feb.18, 2011.
