Week 9:
The plumbers were busy this week and so drainage pipes are now evident in the main slab. The electrician also ran conduits in preparation for the slab pour next week. The excavator finished filling the main slab area with construction fill and then distributed crushed stone. Once again truck load after truck load arrived at the site. What fun it is to pass large dump and cement trucks on the road and know that they are headed to the Landmark gym site. The slab contractor arrives first of next week to begin preparations for the pour which is now scheduled for the end of the week. The leveling process will be interesting to watch to see how they produce a level floor across such a large space.
Best viewing location for those "kids" out there is the Prep stairway. The excavator will also bring in two new water lines (4" domestic and 6" fire sprinkler) to the property most likely today. The foundation contractors closed in the last sections of both the pre-engineered building and the conventional building foundations so the complete outline of the building is now evident along with footings for interior support beams. The underslab drain and sections of the perimeter underground drain are now in place. These are critical for this building for those of you fortunate enough to see how much water flowed through this section of property during the Mother's Day storm of 2006. 1" under slab insulation sections arrived this week. This will lay on top of the stone and then be covered with a vapor barrier. If you see National Grid trucks along Hale Street in the coming days please call me. National Grid has been contracted to bring a natural gas line from the main campus in front of Woodside dorm all along Hale Street to the gym site. They have told us that it may not be until spring but it would be far better to have the gas in the building now. If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to call me. Every now and then I stop in amazement that this is actually happening. Thank you to everyone of you that made this possible. It is so important to Landmark School.
